Tracie Akers, PHR, SHRM-CP


Tracie Akers has 15 years of human resources and leadership experience that spans a multitude of industries, work environments, company sizes and corporate philosophies. Currently, Tracie is the Director of Human Resources at MetroNet. Tracie holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Kansas and has her PHR certification through the HR Certification Institute. She has served and been an active member of the SHRMJC board the last 10 years in several different capacities.

Barb Henry, SHRM-SCP, DDI, ELI
President Elect


Barb is an HR leader, strategist and business partner with over 30 years of professional-level experience. Her background spans diverse work populations including professional, high-tech and luxury sales and marketing; product design, field and high-tech engineering; manufacturing; large-scale call centers; warehousing, distribution and logistics; high-tech and high-end retail; service repair and operations; IT and corporate groups. She has held progressively responsible positions including having headed HR as an executive for major business divisions throughout the U.S., Latin America, Mexico and Japan.Barb possesses a breadth of both strategic and tactical expertise and is particularly known for her involvement in the design, development and delivery of transformative people programs and business processes that drive achievement of operational performance. She has managed the human resources and communications aspect of over 44 major business transformations. She has co-authored published articles for Thinking Bigger Business Media and she possesses a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Kansas in Personnel Administration.   

Kate Sammons
Director of Awards and Recognition

Kate Sammons has worked in Human Resources directly for 5 years in the manufacturing and automotive industries. She found her passion for Human Resources while working in hospitality management, during and after college. Kate is currently the Human Resources Manager and Compliance Officer for Jackson Automotive Kansas City.  She has a B.A. in Organizational Studies, Human Resources from Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Missouri. Kate is responsible for all areas of Human Resources within Jackson Automotive including employee relations, Workers Compensation, payroll, benefits, compliance, auditing, recruiting and on-boarding. She has been a member of SHRMJC since 2013.

Stan Thorne

Director of Communication


Stan has worked in advertising and communication for more than 12 years.  He is currently the Marketing Communications & Technology Advisor for Joshua Communications.  Stan’s diverse background includes working with Applebee’s and the United States Army.  From launching email campaigns and text messaging platforms, to benefit websites and mobile apps, Stan approaches ‘HR-communications' from a retailer’s perspective.  “Applebee’s has customers and HR leaders have employees. Some of the same communications strategies, to catch the target audience’s attention, can apply.” says Stan. For example, the strategies around a retail launch campaign can be used as an open enrollment experience for employees.  Stan graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Advertising and a Concentration in Visual Communications and Graphic Design from the University of Kansas.  He has been a SHRMJC member since 2014 and is proud to be serving as the SHRMJC Communications Director.

Marilyn Christopher, MA-HR, PHR, SHRM-CP
Director of Diversity


Marilyn has extensive experience working in the field of human resources and safety as a Human Resources Generalist, Benefits/ Risk Manager and as an HR Consultant. She graduated with a Master’s degree in Human Resources from Ottawa University and has earned her PHR and SHRM-CP.  Marilyn has a very diverse background, working with hospitals, service industry and security services for major businesses and airports. She is known for developing systems to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. She has conducted I-9 audits, filed EEO reports,  Affirmative Action Plans, 401(k) s, FMLA,5500’s and ensured benefits compliance. She also has extensive experience in risk management, OSHA and effective workers compensation and general liability claims management. Marilyn combines her employee relations skills and safety knowledge to successfully reduced workers compensation expenses which resulted in a tremendous savings in premiums and settlements. Marilyn believes in being proactive and developing the team approach to success.

Chris Owens, PHR, SHRM-CP
Director of Finance


Chris Owens has been in Human Resources for over 10 years, in a variety of industries including movies, healthcare, oil and gas, and restaurant services.Chris joined UMB in August of 2014 as an AVP/Senior Benefits Administrator.She has a M.A. in Human Resource Management from Webster University and a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Business Administration from California State University of Fullerton.Her diverse HR experience includes focuses in employee relations, benefits, payroll, performance management, and training and development.Chris is passionate about making sure associates find the right fit for themselves and the organizations they work for.

David Love, SPHR, SHRM-SCP
Director of Government & Legislative Affairs



David has spent 25 years in Human Resources. His career has crossed several industries including financial, legal and insurance.  David is currently Vice President of Human Resources at Cline Wood, a Marsh & McLennan Agency. His experience has encompassed most fields in human resources and still claims to learn something new every day. David earned his degree in Personnel Administration from the University of Kansas and went on to acquire his Masters of Human Resource Management from Keller Graduate School of Management. Always believing one must continue to learn David has earned his PHR, SPHR, and most recently his SHRM-SCP certifications. David’s volunteer experience has taken many forms most recently he has returned to serve on the board at SHRMJC while at the same time maintaining his role on the KS SHRM Board as the state Director of Government & Legal Affairs. David’s true passion is helping people so they can focus on their career.

Courtney Johnson
Director of Marketing & PR



Courtney has worked in Human Resources for ten years. She is currently the Human Resources Manager with Summit Care. Courtney’s diverse HR experience includes a variety of roles in the areas of recruiting, employee relations, performance management, compensation, and compliance. She graduated from Missouri State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and an MBA. Courtney is PHR and SHRM-CP certified. She has been a SHRMJC member since 2013, and she was active in the Springfield, MO SHRM chapter from 2008-2012. Volunteering is something that is near and dear to Courtney’s heart, and she is excited for this new opportunity to serve as SHRMJC Certifications Director.

Tina Pool, PHR, SHRM-CP
Director of Membership



Tina Pool is well versed in the Human Resources field with over 30 years experience as a Generalist. She serves in many capacities at ECCO Select including HR Subject Matter Expert, Facility Security Officer and Proposal  Manager. Tina has served on the SHRMJC Board as Director of Diversity and is currently the Director of Membership. She is PHR and SHRM-CP certified. Giving back to her professions and community are important to Tina. When she is not volunteering for the professional organizations to which she belongs, you will find her assisting multiple non-profits in the greater Kansas City area.

Gloria Rice
Director of Programs



Gloria has been in the HR field for more than 30 years.  She is Senior Vice President of Allied Staffing/Allied Global Services.   Gloria is responsible for all areas of Human Resources, including Workers’ Compensation, Training and Development, Employee Relations, Recruiting and Hiring. Her career has been dedicated to consulting and providing businesses  with strategic alternatives to their in-house staff.  Gloria has been a member of SHRMJC for more than 15 years.  She previously volunteered on the Membership Committee as well as the Social Committee.  She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Sociology and Psychology.  Gloria has a lot of volunteer experience and has served on several boards in the past  and was previous President of the KCK Rotary Club.  She plans on getting her SHRM Certification soon.   Gloria is very excited about her position as  Director, Programs.

Aaron Quint
Director of Social Media



Aaron has worked in Recruiting and Human Resources for five years in a variety of environments. His experience spans from high volume call centers to staffing agencies to worldwide corporations and he has recruited and on-boarded technical, financial, executive-level employees and more. Aaron has specialized in creating efficient recruiting processes, implementing applicant tracking systems and developing corporate interview and legal compliance training. Aaron enjoys recruitment best practices, employee relations and employee engagement, as well. He is a proud alumnus of the University of Kansas and earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications in 2010. He’s currently recruiting for Euronet Worldwide, a leading global provider of electronic payment and transaction processing solutions. Aaron is excited to expand his HR knowledge and knows that being a part of SHRMJC supports his passion for the HR field and drives him as he grows professionally and adds value to his organization.

Cherie Ziegler, CEBS, PHR, SHRM-CP
Director of Workforce Readiness


Cherie has over 25 years of experience in Human Resources, in multiple industries including restaurants, engineering consulting, mining & manufacturing, transportation & distribution, healthcare, software development, customer care call centers, and now banking.  Cherie is a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) and has her PHR; she earned her bachelor’s degree in HR Management from Ottawa University.  Cherie is passionate about making the workplace a good fit for employees and employers alike, and volunteers her spare time to animal rescue and people in job transition.

TamiH. Seaman, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, has been fortunate to work with exceptional leaders and committed people in both for profit and non-profit organizations in her professional human resources roles. Tami is a former Society for Human Resources Management Kansas State (SHRMKS) Council Director. She has held numerous leadership roles on the Society of Human Resources Management of Johnson County (SHRMJC) Board of Directors. Tami has a Master’s degree in Adult Education from Kansas State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Central Missouri.

Lisa Miller
Chapter Management Professional


Lisa Miller is an accomplished professional with more than twenty years of human resources experience in the health care, hospitality and banking industries.  In addition, she has fourteen years of project management experience.   She is a leader who thrives in a highly collaborative work environment.  Currently, Lisa works at Morgan Hunter as a Recruitment Consultant in the Human Resources and Administrative Division, as well as serving as the SHRMJC Chapter Management Professional.  She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Personnel Administration from the University of Kansas.
