Program Information:

In this informative and entertaining session, we will review this year's latest Supreme Court cases, lower court cases from around the country, and new laws and regulations which every human resources professional needs to know. We'll cover it all, including developments in sexual harassment issues, new federal and state employment laws and regulations, wrinkles under the FMLA and ADA, and trends in labor law affecting every workplace.

You will learn:

  • Summaries of the latest labor and employment court cases.
  • Descriptions of new legislation and regulations affecting HR Practitioners.
  • The latest trends in employment and labor laws and regulations.

This program has been submitted to SHRM and HRCI for 1.5 certification credit.


Speaker Bio:

Michael Blumenthal is a founding member of Seyferth Blumenthal & Harris LLC, a Kansas City-based law firm representing businesses across the United States in employment matters and business litigation. Mike was named by The Best Lawyers in America as the 2017 “Lawyer of the Year” in Kansas City in labor and employment litigation. He was recognized by Missouri Lawyers’ Weekly as one of Missouri’s 2018 “Legal Champions” for his work in a lawsuit his firm filed on behalf the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City, which obtained more than $175 million for the benefit of the Kansas City community. Mike has also received numerous other professional accolades for his work as an employment lawyer and as a trial lawyer representing businesses. Mike is the past president and a former board member of the Society for Human Resource Management of Johnson County, he is a Fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, and he is frequent speaker at human resources and employment law seminars. Mike received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Kansas. He is also is an accomplished martial artist, holding a sixth degree black belt in traditional karate.

We will be meeting in one of the Ballrooms.  When you arrive at the DoubleTree, drive around to the back of the hotel (the North side) and park in the back parking lot.  The Ballroom is near the glass north entrance doors.

SHRMJC's Cancellation Policy:  If you must cancel your reservation, please do so no later than 72-hours prior to the event. We are required to turn in the number of registered attendees to the DoubleTree for planning purposes and must pay for the number of attendees we anticipate, whether they attend or not. As a not-for-profit organization we simply can't afford to pay for no-shows.  Thanks for understanding!
