Tracie Akers, PHR, SHRM-CP


Tracie Akers has 15 years of human resources and leadership experience that spans a multitude of industries, work environments, company sizes and corporate philosophies. Currently, Tracie is the Director of Human Resources at MetroNet. Tracie holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Kansas and has her PHR certification through the HR Certification Institute. She has served and been an active member of the SHRMJC board the last 10 years in several different capacities.

Tina Pool, PHR, SHRM-CP
President Elect


Tina Pool is well versed in the Human Resources field with over 30 years experience as a Generalist. She serves in many capacities at ECCO Select including HR Subject Matter Expert, Facility Security Officer and Proposal  Manager. Tina has served on the SHRMJC Board as Director of Diversity and Director of Membership. She is PHR and SHRM-CP certified. Giving back to her professions and community are important to Tina. When she is not volunteering for the professional organizations to which she belongs, you will find her assisting multiple non-profits in the greater Kansas City area.

Kate Sammons
Director of Awards and Recognition

Kate Sammons has worked in Human Resources directly for 5 years in the manufacturing and automotive industries. She found her passion for Human Resources while working in hospitality management, during and after college. Kate is currently the Human Resources Manager and Compliance Officer for Jackson Automotive Kansas City.  She has a B.A. in Organizational Studies, Human Resources from Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Missouri. Kate is responsible for all areas of Human Resources within Jackson Automotive including employee relations, Workers Compensation, payroll, benefits, compliance, auditing, recruiting and on-boarding. She has been a member of SHRMJC since 2013.

Suzanne McVey

Director of Certification


Suzanne has been in Human Resources for over 20 years serving as a business partner, mergers, and acquisitions leader, outsourcing partner, consultant and recruiter.   She graduated with an MBA from Washburn University and a BS from Kansas State University in Business and has earned her SPHR and SHRM-SCP.     Suzanne has worked in the manufacturing, medical and telecommunications industries supporting leadership in developing and implementing people strategies both domestically and internationally.  Her expertise in mergers and outsourcing resulted in the reduction of the time it takes to onboard employees through project plans and critical communications strategies.  She is passionate about employee engagement and how everyone plays a role in making it a great place to work.  Suzanne is excited to be part of SHRMJC serving as the Director of Certification. 

Anita Dickey
Director of College Relations


Anita has over 20 years in human resources experience that spans multiple industries and environments with a commitment to make a difference for the organization and the people in the workforce.   She is a driven Human Resources leader and strategic business partner with proven success connecting HR initiatives to the organization’s business objectives, positively impacting culture, profitability and future growth. Successful leadership and team management abilities in addition to strong business and conflict resolution skills. Committed to providing solutions that positively impact company culture and performance. Adept at building relationships with people at all levels of an organization, forecasting pay and benefit initiatives, strategic planning, business partner relationships  and forming and leading strong teams to achieve the desired outcome. With a degree in Business Management and a minor in communication Anita has gone on to achieve her SHRM-SCP and SPHR Certifications.  She has previously served on the Workforce Readiness Board of the Johnson County SHRM and the Diversity Committee of the Des Moines Iowa SHRM Chapter.

Tausha Hammett
Director of Diversity


Tausha has over 10 years of Human Resources experience in industries including legal, manufacturing, financial. She is currently the Personnel Manager at Wilbert Funeral Services Inc. and is responsible for training, recruiting, employee relations, benefits, DOT, performance management, compensation, and grants. She has an MBA with a concentration in Human Resources from Ottawa University and a BA in Business Administration from Tennessee State University. With experience in public and private sector, she enjoy's all aspects of HR and is eager to continue to learn. She is passionate about being able to give back and change peoples lives. Tausha is excited and ready for the challenge of being the Director of Diversity and the ability to be apart of change.

Chris Owens, PHR, SHRM-CP
Director of Finance


Chris Owens has been in Human Resources for over 10 years, in a variety of industries including movies, healthcare, oil and gas, and restaurant services.Chris joined UMB in August of 2014 as an AVP/Senior Benefits Administrator.She has a M.A. in Human Resource Management from Webster University and a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Business Administration from California State University of Fullerton.Her diverse HR experience includes focuses in employee relations, benefits, payroll, performance management, and training and development.Chris is passionate about making sure associates find the right fit for themselves and the organizations they work for.

David Love, SPHR, SHRM-SCP
Director of Government & Legislative Affairs


David has spent 25 years in Human Resources. His career has crossed several industries including financial, legal and insurance.  David is currently Vice President of Human Resources at Cline Wood, a Marsh & McLennan Agency. His experience has encompassed most fields in human resources and still claims to learn something new every day. David earned his degree in Personnel Administration from the University of Kansas and went on to acquire his Masters of Human Resource Management from Keller Graduate School of Management. Always believing one must continue to learn David has earned his PHR, SPHR, and most recently his SHRM-SCP certifications. David’s volunteer experience has taken many forms most recently he has returned to serve on the board at SHRMJC while at the same time maintaining his role on the KS SHRM Board as the state Director of Government & Legal Affairs. David’s true passion is helping people so they can focus on their career.

Courtney Johnson
Director of Marketing & PR


Courtney has worked in Human Resources for ten years. She is currently the Human Resources Manager with Summit Care. Courtney’s diverse HR experience includes a variety of roles in the areas of recruiting, employee relations, performance management, compensation, and compliance. She graduated from Missouri State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and an MBA. Courtney is PHR and SHRM-CP certified. She has been a SHRMJC member since 2013, and she was active in the Springfield, MO SHRM chapter from 2008-2012. Volunteering is something that is near and dear to Courtney’s heart, and she is excited for this new opportunity to serve as SHRMJC Certifications Director.

Cherie Ziegler
Director of Membership


Cherie has over 25 years of experience in Human Resources, in multiple industries including restaurants, engineering consulting, mining & manufacturing, transportation & distribution, healthcare, software development, customer care call centers, and banking.  Cherie is a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) and has her PHR and SHRM-CP certifications; she earned her bachelor’s degree in HR Management from Ottawa University.  Cherie is passionate about making the workplace a good fit for employees and employers alike, and volunteers her spare time to animal rescue and people in job transition.

Gloria Rice
Director of Programs


Gloria has been in the HR field for more than 30 years.  She is Senior Vice President of Allied Staffing/Allied Global Services.   Gloria is responsible for all areas of Human Resources, including Workers’ Compensation, Training and Development, Employee Relations, Recruiting and Hiring. Her career has been dedicated to consulting and providing businesses  with strategic alternatives to their in-house staff.  Gloria has been a member of SHRMJC for more than 15 years.  She previously volunteered on the Membership Committee as well as the Social Committee.  She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Sociology and Psychology.  Gloria has a lot of volunteer experience and has served on several boards in the past  and was previous President of the KCK Rotary Club.  She plans on getting her SHRM Certification soon.   Gloria is very excited about her position as  Director, Programs.

Christa Jacelone
Director of Social Media


Christa is the Human Resources Generalist for City Wide Holdings, Inc. that encompasses three separate companies. Christa has 4 years of human resources experience and has a strong background in recruitment, interpersonal communications, new hire on-boarding, and employee engagement. She has supported various employee groups including union members, sales, operations, and executive leadership. She has a Bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership from the Southern Nazarene University. Christa is also a national member of SHRM and has served on the Board of the Jayhawk Chapter of Lawrence, KS.

Janet Barrow
Director of Workforce Readiness


Janet Barrow has 25+ years of HR leadership experience.  Her background includes working with both public and private organizations in retail, aviation, and now water utilities.  Janet currently is the Director of Human Resources and Administration at WaterOne in Lenexa KS.  She also serves on the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Workforce Strategies Committee.  Before relocating to the Johnson County area in 2016, she was active as 2nd vice chair of Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) HR Steering Committee, and served as a Board Member of Highland Park Community Development Corporation (Louisville, KY).  Janet holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Spalding University, a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Louisville, and a Doctorate in Leadership Education from Spalding University (Louisville, KY). She’s been a member of SHRM National and Louisville SHRM since 2000, and joined SHRMJC in 2016.


Lisa Miller
Chapter Management Professional


Lisa Miller is an accomplished professional with more than twenty years of human resources experience in the health care, hospitality and banking industries.  In addition, she has fourteen years of project management experience.   She is a leader who thrives in a highly collaborative work environment.  Currently, Lisa works at Morgan Hunter as a Recruitment Consultant in the Human Resources and Administrative Division, as well as serving as the SHRMJC Chapter Management Professional.  She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Personnel Administration from the University of Kansas.
