Tina Pool, PHR, SHRM-CP
President
Tina Pool is well versed in the Human Resources field with over 30 years experience as a Generalist. She serves in many capacities at ECCO Select including HR Subject Matter Expert, Facility Security Officer and Proposal  Manager. Tina has served on the SHRMJC Board as Director of Diversity and Director of Membership. She is PHR and SHRM-CP certified. Giving back to her professions and community are important to Tina. When she is not volunteering for the professional organizations to which she belongs, you will find her assisting multiple non-profits in the greater Kansas City area.


Cherie Ziegler, CEBS, PHR, SHRM-CP
President Elect
Cherie has over 25 years of experience in Human Resources, in multiple industries including restaurants, engineering consulting, mining & manufacturing, transportation & distribution, healthcare, software development, customer care call centers, and banking.  Cherie is a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) and has her PHR and SHRM-CP certifications; she earned her bachelor’s degree in HR Management from Ottawa University.  Cherie is passionate about making the workplace a good fit for employees and employers alike, and volunteers her spare time to animal rescue and people in job transition.
 

Tracie Akers, PHR, SHRM-CP
Past President
Tracie Akers has 15 years of human resources and leadership experience that spans a multitude of industries, work environments, company sizes and corporate philosophies. Currently, Tracie is the Director of Human Resources at MetroNet. Tracie holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Kansas and has her PHR certification through the HR Certification Institute. She has served and been an active member of the SHRMJC board the last 10 years in several different capacities.  

Tricia O'Rourke, PHR, SHRM-CP
Director of Awards & Recognition

 

Tricia O'Rourke has been in the Human Resources industry for over 30 years in an  HR  Generalist role.  She is currently employed at Flexsteel Industries as an HR Generalist.  Tricia has her Masters in Human Resource Management from Keller Graduate School and is PHR and SHRM-CP certified.  As an HR professional, her areas of responsibility include:  recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, payroll, and worker's compensation.  She has served two years on the Membership Committee.



Kristi Briseno, SHRM-CP

Director of Certification

Kristi has worked in Human Resources directly for over 7 years, in a variety of industries including Public School District, Non-profit organization, and Industrial Sales and Service.  While her psychology major directly reflects her passion for people, she has been able to utilize that passion by working in Human Resources.  Kristi has been responsible for most all areas of Human Resources from HR Assistant, Recruiting, HRBP, and currently Human Resources Manager for Vermeer Great Plains.  Kristi is currently responsible for all aspects of HR for Vermeer Great Plains such as Recruiting, Hiring, Onboarding, Employee relations, Workers Compensation, Benefits, Compliance and much more.  Kristi is SHRM-CP certified and is excited to help others obtain that goal as well.  When she is not working, you will find her as a spectator at most sporting events as Kristi is an avid sports fan of Football, Basketball and Baseball from high school all the way up to the professional level.



Michael Wilson
Director of College Relations

Michael Wilson has 5 years of recruiting experience in Human Resources.  He is currently a Senior Executive Recruiter for Ajilon, an HR specialty recruiting firm in Overland Park.  In his role he assists companies within various industries connect with top HR talent for permanent and consulting positions.  Michael is a relationship-oriented professional who enjoys his role in recruiting because he is passionate about assisting companies connect with top HR talent who will in turn assist the company drive their mission, vision and values.  Michael believes that employees are an organization’s most valuable asset, and he proudly serves as the liaison between a company’s hiring vision and potential talent.  Before transitioning into the recruiting/staffing industry Michael worked in higher education for the University of Wyoming and the University of Colorado within the areas of academic advising, career counseling, professional development, and athletics.  Michael graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and Master’s degree in Counseling with an emphasis in Higher Education from the University of Wyoming.  



Kathleen Marx

Director of Communication

Kathleen holds a degree in Human Resources from the University of Kansas.  She helps companies find, train and retain great people. Her passion lies in coaching people for greater career success. Her relationship building, communication, and analytical skills, together with her enthusiasm and creativity, drive her to improve employee training and retention. Being active in community theater and solo performances prepare Kathleen well to respond nimbly to unforeseen circumstances, and give her ample opportunity to practice presentation and facilitation skills.  Outside of the workplace, Kathleen volunteers as a soloist at Federal Naturalization Ceremonies.  



Tausha Hammett
Director of Diversity & Inclusion

Tausha has over 10 years of Human Resources experience in industries including legal, manufacturing, financial. She is currently the Personnel Manager at Wilbert Funeral Services Inc. and is responsible for training, recruiting, employee relations, benefits, DOT, performance management, compensation, and grants. She has an MBA with a concentration in Human Resources from Ottawa University and a BA in Business Administration from Tennessee State University. With experience in public and private sector, she enjoy's all aspects of HR and is eager to continue to learn. She is passionate about being able to give back and change peoples lives. Tausha is excited and ready for the challenge of being the Director of Diversity and the ability to be apart of change.





Chris Owens, PHR, SHRM-CP
Director of Finance

Chris Owens has been in Human Resources for over 10 years, in a variety of industries including movies, healthcare, oil and gas, and restaurant services.Chris joined UMB in August of 2014 as an AVP/Senior Benefits Administrator.She has a M.A. in Human Resource Management from Webster University and a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Business Administration from California State University of Fullerton.Her diverse HR experience includes focuses in employee relations, benefits, payroll, performance management, and training and development.Chris is passionate about making sure associates find the right fit for themselves and the organizations they work for.



Jim Ward
Director of Government & Legislative Affairs

Jim Ward has over 25 years of experience providing legal representation to employers across a range of HR compliance issues and employment litigation matters.  Jim is Of Counsel in the Overland Park office of Jackson Lewis P.C., a national labor & employment law firm.  Jim regularly presents on employment-related topics to both employers and other employment attorneys, both through SHRM and various bar associations, including the Missouri Bar, Kansas Bar, and the Association of Corporate Counsel.  When he is not working, Jim enjoys taking in the vast music and art treasures found throughout greater Kansas City.



Kat Salvo

Kat has over 7 years’ experience in Human Resources and is currently a Senior Recruiter in the Human Resources Division at Morgan Hunter. Kat has extensive experience in connecting talented professionals with career opportunities in the KC area. Kat earned her Bachelor of Arts and Science degree in International Marketing and Merchandising from the University of Missouri- Columbia. Prior to joining Morgan Hunter, Kat was a Human Resources Manager in the retail industry where she led recruiting and onboarding efforts for multiple retail locations. Her recruiting expertise and hands-on knowledge of the HR industry makes her and invaluable resource for candidates and clients alike. In her spare time, Kat volunteers in the community as an Advisor for MADI. 




Courtney Johnson, PHR, SHRM-CP

Courtney has worked in Human Resources for over ten years in the construction, manufacturing, and healthcare industries.  She is currently the Human Resources Manager with Summit Care, Inc.  Courtney’s diverse HR experience includes focuses in recruiting, employee relations, benefits administration, payroll,  compensation, and compliance. She graduated from Missouri State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and an MBA. Courtney is PHR and SHRM-CP certified. She has served on the SHRMJC board since 2016, and served on the Board of the Springfield, MO SHRM chapter prior.  Volunteering is something that is near and dear to Courtney’s heart, and she is excited for this new opportunity to serve as SHRMJC Membership Director.



Suzanne McVey, SPHR, SHRM-SCP

Suzanne has been in Human Resources for over 20 years serving as a business partner, mergers, and acquisitions leader, outsourcing partner, consultant and recruiter and is a Global Sourcing Manager for Infosys, a global IT organization.  In her role, she helps clients with people solutions that include outsourcing arrangements as well as acquisitions.  She graduated with an MBA from Washburn University and a BS from Kansas State University in Business and has earned her SPHR and SHRM-SCP.   Suzanne has worked in the manufacturing, medical and telecommunications industries supporting leadership in developing and implementing people strategies both domestically and internationally. She is passionate about employee engagement and how everyone plays a role in making it a great place to work.  Suzanne serves as the Director of Programs. 

Taylor Odell
Director of Social Media

Taylor has worked in Human Resources for 3 years. She is currently the Human Resources Generalist for Global Connections Inc, as well as TITLE Boxing Club, LLC. Taylor earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Human Services from Kansas State University. In her role, her primary focuses include: recruiting, retention, employee relations, onboarding, and employment law. Taylor is a SHRM National member and has been a SHRMJC member since 2017. When not in the office, you can find Taylor volunteering for Unleashed Pet Rescue.



Janet Barrow
Director of Workforce Readiness

Janet Barrow has 25+ years of HR leadership experience.  Her background includes working with both public and private organizations in retail, aviation, and now water utilities.  Janet currently is the Director of Human Resources and Administration at WaterOne in Lenexa KS.  She also serves on the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Workforce Strategies Committee.  Before relocating to the Johnson County area in 2016, she was active as 2nd vice chair of Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) HR Steering Committee, and served as a Board Member of Highland Park Community Development Corporation (Louisville, KY).  Janet holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Spalding University, a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Louisville, and a Doctorate in Leadership Education from Spalding University (Louisville, KY). She’s been a member of SHRM National and Louisville SHRM since 2000, and joined SHRMJC in 2016.

 

Lisa Miller
Chapter Management Professional

Lisa Miller is an accomplished professional with more than twenty years of human resources experience in the health care, hospitality and banking industries.  In addition, she has sixteen years of project management experience.   She is a leader who thrives in a highly collaborative work environment.  Currently, Lisa works at Morgan Hunter as a Recruitment Consultant in the Human Resources and Administrative Division and is a Human Resources Administrator contractor at MetroNet.  Lisa has been serving as the SHRMJC Chapter Management Professional since 2015.  She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Personnel Administration from the University of Kansas.  Lisa is a SHRM National member and has been a member of SHRMJC since 2009.
