Workforce Readiness Committee

We are committed to assisting the job seeking public with their search for better opportunities.  We do this by providing interview guidance, resume review, networking and search techniques, and lending a sympathetic ear when the frustration boils over.  We partner with local job club groups and the county library system, and overlap our mission with other SHRMJC committees, such as Membership, Diversity & Inclusion, and College Relations.

So You Think You Can Interview

Saturday, Apr 6, 2019

10:00 am to 1:00 pm

 

Monticello Library

Your interviewing skills might need some polish, no matter what position you seek or how long you have been working. This two-part session begins with an interactive presentation about what to expect in an interview and tips for success. Next, participants can meet one-on-one with a human resources professional for a 20-minute mock interview and feedback session. Come dressed for an interview! Continental breakfast will be served starting at 9:30 am. Presented by members of the Society for Human Resource Management of Johnson County. One-on-one spots are limited for this popular session.

Resume/Cover Letter Services

Let the SHRMJC career readiness team help you put together your on-paper branding. One of the most critical pieces of your search will be your ability to market yourself through your resume, including how to include key words in your resume that can be scanned into applicant tracking systems, which will increase your chances to get an interview.

   

Job Searching/Self Sourcing

When starting a search, one of the most intimidating things can be finding the right role and then how to apply. We can help you use technology to simplify your search and maximize your opportunities.

 

Interviewing

Congratulations! You’ve made it through the initial review and now you are scheduled for an interview. Let us help you prepare how to demonstrate your proficiency for the job and why you are the "must-have" candidate for the role. This will include preparation for phone interviews, in-person and video on-demand interviewing.

 

Branding/Social Media

A lot of today’s job connections and mobility are started with your social media presence. Being able to attract potential strategic partners and future employers is a key part of your job search and ultimately securing your next role. Let us help you craft your message and construct your social media brand.
